“Alma Lírica Brasileira”

(THE LYRICAL SOUL OF BRAZIL)

Mônica Salmaso has emerged as one of the best young voices among the new talents of Brazil and recently won the Brazilian Visa-Mastercard-Eldorado Prize for best singer.

“Her luminous voice, is tinged with melancholy and calm sensuality…” -- Jon Pareles/NYTimes

Paulo Bellinati is one of Brazil’s most accomplished contemporary guitarists, the winner of the coveted “Premio Sharp”, Brazil’s Grammy award. His compositions, arrangements and interpretations are considered an essential contribution to Brazilian music and the world of guitar literature.

…”the intimacy and embroidery of Bellinati’s arrangements that emerge as the project’s ultimate artistic seal.” – Bruce Gilman

Following the acclaimed “Afro-Sambas" CD (Baden Powell & Vinicius de Moraes songs), Bellinati and Salmaso's collaboration "Alma Lyrca Brasileira", is another beautiful anthology of Brazilian songs: masterpieces written by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Luiz Bonfá, and Waldemar Henrique.

Produced and arranged by Paulo Bellinati, this project focuses on the musical language of Antonio Carlos Jobim, who dedicated part of his work to write songs that belong to both universes, classical and popular. Jobim's composition “Luiza” is considered one of the most intense, perfect and beautiful songs ever written.

Luiz Bonfá also belongs to an elite group of guitarist/composers, like his compatriots Baden Powell, and Garoto.  He is best known for the song “Manhã de Carnaval”, another famous Brazilian standard.

The third composer, Waldemar Henrique has dedicated his work to his native Amazon region. Most of his songs also belong to both universes: classical and popular.

Monica & Paulo will be presenting music from both of these projects at their debut at Yoshi’s.
